You&#8217;re not alone! In an effort to do so myself, I&#8217;m starting a monthly series called &#8220;News for developers&#8221; which is exactly that: a summary of all of the Azure flavored news specifically for <strong>software developers<\/strong>. Now this is based on my personal feeds and my personal opinion, so you might miss things or see things which in your opinion do not matter. Feel free to comment below and I&#8217;ll see what I can do for the next edition. And honestly, this is more a personal reference than anything else so having actual readers would already be awesome \ud83d\ude42 Enjoy!<\/p>\n<p>Where the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.repsaj.nl\/index.php\/2017\/10\/azure-news-for-developers-september-2017\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previous edition<\/a> featured a lot of stuff due to Ignite, things are a bit slow for this one. But still, some good news came from Redmond!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>App Service specific updates<\/h2>\n<p>Here are some important updates from the world of Azure App Services:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Steps have been made to improve\u00a0<strong>performance\u00a0<\/strong>of the App Service blades in the Azure Portal. And better performance is always nice!<\/li>\n<li>There&#8217;s now support for\u00a0<strong>public key certificates<\/strong>, which allows you to use your self-signed certs.<\/li>\n<li>A new deployment option allows you to push zip files with updates to your Functions and Web Jobs instances. (<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/appserviceteam\/2017\/10\/16\/zip-push-deployment-for-web-apps-functions-and-webjobs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Durable Functions<\/strong> were officially announced in preview last month. This special type of function allows you to orchestrate longer running processes where normal functions are limited in execution time. (<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/appserviceteam\/2017\/10\/10\/durable-functions-and-bindings-extensibility-preview-announcement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The app services team keeps track of their updates in <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/appserviceteam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">blog posts<\/a> and in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/Azure\/app-service-announcements\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this github repo<\/a>. Check them out!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Visual Studio (Team Services)<\/h2>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the news coming from the Visual Studio and Visual Studio Team Services teams!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Visual Studio team keeps pushing updates like crazy! <strong>Release 15.4<\/strong> is out in the open (<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/2017\/10\/10\/visual-studio-2017-version-15-4-released\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>) <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">and<\/span> they\u00a0released a preview version of <strong>VS 15.5<\/strong>. (<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/2017\/10\/24\/visual-studio-2017-version-15-5-preview-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>If you&#8217;ve got the\u00a0<strong>Visual Studio Continous Delivery Tool Extension<\/strong> installed, you can now view notifications from VSTS right within the Visual Studio IDE. (<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/2017\/10\/19\/visual-studio-team-services-notifications-in-visual-studio-ide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Multiple enhancements have been made to the\u00a0<strong>Search<\/strong> experience for\u00a0<strong>Code<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Work Items<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s now possible to reference work items from within\u00a0<strong>Wiki pages.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>You can now use secrets stored in\u00a0<strong>Azure Key Vault\u00a0<\/strong>within your CI builds. Nice, keep all passwords secure in one place and limit access to just the people who should have access. No more secrets in code!<\/li>\n<li>Fields that previously supported the &#8220;<strong>In<\/strong>&#8221; query operator now also support &#8220;<strong>Not in<\/strong>&#8220;<\/li>\n<li>Customizable work item rules now allow you to set certain fields\u00a0<strong>read only<\/strong> in work items, for instance after an item is closed.<\/li>\n<li>The &#8220;<strong>create release<\/strong>&#8221; experience has been revamped with some nice visualisations in place.<\/li>\n<li>Last and in my opinion certainly least; your profile picture is now circle-shaped! They&#8217;re\u00a0<strong>tripling<\/strong> the capacity in China next six months. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/microsoft-azure-set-to-triple-its-capacity-in-china-in-next-six-months\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Talking about power, those with a need for speed should check out\u00a0<strong>Fv2 virtual machines<\/strong> which are the fastest VMs in Azure available right now! These feature <strong>Intel\u00ae Xeon\u00ae<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Scalable\u00a0<\/strong>processors. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/fv2-vms-are-now-available-the-fastest-vms-on-azure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Announced at Ignite, the <strong>Kubernetes<\/strong> support for Azure Container Service is now in preview. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/roadmap\/aks-azure-container-service-managed-kubernetes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Still in doubt whether you want to use\u00a0<strong>AWS<\/strong> or\u00a0Azure?
