You&#8217;re not alone! In an effort to do so myself, I&#8217;m starting a monthly series called &#8220;News for developers&#8221; which is exactly that: a summary of all of the Azure flavored news specifically for <strong>software developers<\/strong>. Want to know more? Check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.repsaj.nl\/index.php\/2020\/05\/azure-news-for-developers-the-readme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">readme<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Azure<\/h2>\n<p>Here is a roll-up of all the Azure news which might relate to you as a developer. Note that all services mentioned are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Generally Available<\/span> (GA) so they can be used in production scenarios today. Exact availability of services might vary based on the Azure region you&#8217;re deploying to.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>Form Recognizer<\/strong> service is now GA. You can use this cognitive service to automatically OCR and recognize fields from receipts and other documents. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/form-recognizer-is-generally-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>On the topic of cognitive services; new functionalities also include: custom commands and new neural Text to Speech voices. Text analytics for health is in preview. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/azure-ai-build-missioncritical-ai-apps-with-new-cognitive-services-capabilities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>You can now switch to the <strong>New Git user experience\u00a0<\/strong>in Visual Studio using the preview feature toggle in the Tools -&gt; Options pane. (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/exciting-new-updates-to-the-git-experience-in-visual-studio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>The Azure\u00a0<strong>SignalR Service<\/strong> now supports connecting via Private Link. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/generally-available-azure-private-link-for-azure-signalr-service\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>If you&#8217;re using the Azure Time Series Insights experience, check out these upcoming changes to S1\/S2 SKUs. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/notification-of-upcoming-changes-to-azure-time-series-insights-web-experience-url\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Non-compliant certificate authorities are being revoked from Azure Services, which might impact your services with a bring-your-own cert. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/certificateauthorityrevocation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>On Azure Storage accounts you can now\u00a0<strong>disable public access<\/strong> for added security. This ensures your storage account is invisible to the public when you don&#8217;t need it to be. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/choose-to-allow-or-disallow-blob-public-access-on-azure-storage-accounts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>If you&#8217;re into architecting solutions, check out the\u00a0<strong>Microsoft Azure Well-Architected Framework\u00a0<\/strong>which guides you when building Azure based solutions. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/introducing-the-microsoft-azure-wellarchitected-framework\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Azure AKS now supports Azure AD. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/aksmanaged-azure-active-directory-support-is-now-generally-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>You can now connect Azure Logic Apps and Power Automate solutions to Azure Monitor using an Azure Monitor connector. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/azure-monitor-logs-connector-is-now-generally-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>The MAXDOP (max degree of parallelism) option in Azure SQL Database is changing from 0 to 8. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/sqldb-maxdop-updates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>There is now a new\u00a0<strong>PowerBI\u00a0<\/strong>component specially for\u00a0<strong>React<\/strong> built web applications. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/announcing-react-power-bi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Visual Studio &amp; Azure DevOps<\/h2>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the news coming from the Visual Studio and Azure DevOps teams!<\/p>\n<p>For Visual Studio lovers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Visual Studio 2019\u00a0<strong>version 16.6<\/strong>\u00a0is out there (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/visual-studio-2019-v16-6-and-v16-7-preview-1-ship-today\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>) and the preview version is 16.7 preview 2. (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/visual-studio-2019-v16-7-preview-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Visual Studio 2019 for Mac\u00a0<strong>version 8.6<\/strong> is now available (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/visual-studio-2019-for-mac-version-8-6-is-now-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And these updates were part of sprint 172 in Azure DevOps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You can now use\u00a0<strong>state transition restriction rules<\/strong> to restrict work items from being moved from one state to another. (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/devops\/release-notes\/2020\/sprint-172-update#state-transition-restriction-rules\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>When copying a work item, you can select &#8220;<strong>Include child work items<\/strong>&#8221; to also copy the children. (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/devops\/release-notes\/2020\/sprint-172-update#copy-work-item-to-copy-children\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>By using &#8220;<strong>Exclusive Lock<\/strong>&#8221; you can now ensure that only a single run deploys to an environment at a time (using a check). (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/devops\/release-notes\/2020\/sprint-172-update#exclusive-deployment-lock-policy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>YAML pipelines now offer\u00a0<strong>generic webhook based triggers <\/strong>which you can use to trigger your pipeline from the outside. (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/devops\/release-notes\/2020\/sprint-172-update#generic-webhook-based-triggers-for-yaml-pipelines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>The ability to create org-scopes feeds from the UI has been brought back.
