You&#8217;re not alone! In an effort to do so myself, I&#8217;m starting a monthly series called &#8220;News for developers&#8221; which is exactly that: a summary of all of the Azure flavored news specifically for <strong>software developers<\/strong>. Want to know more? Check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.repsaj.nl\/index.php\/2020\/05\/azure-news-for-developers-the-readme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">readme<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Azure<\/h2>\n<p>Here is a roll-up of all the Azure news which might relate to you as a developer. Note that all services mentioned are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Generally Available<\/span> (GA) so they can be used in production scenarios today. Exact availability of services might vary based on the Azure region you&#8217;re deploying to.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you&#8217;re a\u00a0<strong>CosmosDB\u00a0<\/strong>user, it&#8217;s good to know that indexing updates don&#8217;t have any effect on reads or writes any more. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/no-downtime-indexing-updates-in-azure-cosmos-db\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Azure SQL Managed Instance<\/strong> now has support for LRS and ZRS storage for back-up redundancy purposes. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/configurable-backup-storage-redundancy-option-for-azure-sql-managed-instance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>For any apps running full framework,\u00a0<strong>.NET Framework 4.8\u00a0<\/strong>is now supported on Azure App Service. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/app-service-net-framework-48-support-now-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Azure Monitor for container with Azure Portal now supports Kubernetes source view. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/ci-aks-resource-view\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Users of\u00a0<strong>Azure Functions<\/strong> can now leverage support for\u00a0<strong>PowerShell 7<\/strong>. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/azure-functions-powershell-7-support-is-now-generally-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Visual Studio &amp; Azure DevOps<\/h2>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the news coming from the Visual Studio and Azure DevOps teams!<\/p>\n<p>For Visual Studio lovers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Visual Studio 2019\u00a0<strong>version 16.7<\/strong>\u00a0is out there (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/visual-studio-2019-v16-7-releases\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>) and the preview version is 16.8 preview 1. (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/visual-studio-2019-v16-7-releases\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Visual Studio 2019 for Mac\u00a0<strong>version 8.7<\/strong>\u00a0is now available (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/visual-studio-2019-for-mac-version-8-7-is-now-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>For folks writing\u00a0<strong>Angular<\/strong> apps, you might want to check out VS support for the Angular Language Service, which enables things like auto-complete, rename and more across editors. You need VS 16.5 or up and have to have an extension installed. (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/angular-language-service-for-visual-studio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And these updates were part of sprint 173 &amp; 174 in Azure DevOps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The images for\u00a0<strong>Azure Pipelines<\/strong> are being updated. This\u00a0<em>might<\/em> impact your pipelines, so make sure to check up front before stuff breaks.\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/devops\/release-notes\/2020\/sprint-173-update#pipelines-images-announcements\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>YAML pipelines now support being triggered from multiple repos. (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/devops\/release-notes\/2020\/sprint-173-update#multi-repo-triggers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>If you create a\u00a0<strong>draft pull request<\/strong> from GitHub, this will\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">not<\/span> trigger a pipeline. This is now consistent with behavior with Azure repos. (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/devops\/release-notes\/2020\/sprint-173-update#github-draft-pull-requests-do-not-trigger-pipelines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>There is now fine-grained support to start\/stop containers from a pipeline. (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/devops\/release-notes\/2020\/sprint-174-update#fine-grained-control-over-container-startstop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Universal Packages<\/strong> are now supported for upstream sources in Azure artifacts. (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/devops\/release-notes\/2020\/sprint-174-update#configure-upstream-sources-for-universal-packages\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Changes to Azure DevOps can take up to three weeks to roll out across tenants.\u00a0The Visual Studio blog can be found here:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/visualstudio<\/a>.
