You&#8217;re not alone! In an effort to do so myself, I&#8217;m starting a monthly series called &#8220;News for developers&#8221; which is exactly that: a summary of all of the Azure flavored news specifically for <strong>software developers<\/strong>. Want to know more? Check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.repsaj.nl\/index.php\/2020\/05\/azure-news-for-developers-the-readme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">readme<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Azure<\/h2>\n<p>Here is a roll-up of all the Azure news which might relate to you as a developer. Note that all services mentioned are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Generally Available<\/span> (GA) so they can be used in production scenarios today. Exact availability of services might vary based on the Azure region you&#8217;re deploying to.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The support for <strong>API Management<\/strong> certificates in Azure <strong>KeyVault<\/strong> is now GA! (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/support-for-azure-api-management-certificates-in-azure-key-vault-has-reached-general-availability\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>There is now a <strong>Visual Studio Code<\/strong> extension for <strong>API Management<\/strong>. This lets you, for instance, manage and test APIs, edit and debug policies and importing Functions, App Service or OpenAPI specs into API Management. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/azure-api-management-extension-for-visual-studio-code-now-generally-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Lastly on <strong>API Management<\/strong>, you can now store your named values in KeyVault as well. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/general-availability-azure-api-management-now-has-named-values-integration-with-azure-key-vault\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>You can now stop\/start your\u00a0<strong>Azure Database for MySQL<\/strong> in order to save money during non-business hours for instance. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/general-availability-stopstart-functionality-for-azure-database-for-mysql\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>If you&#8217;re referencing KeyVault from Azure AppService or Functions, you can now reference without using the version of the secret. Updates to the secrets will be automatically handled by the platform! (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/versions-no-longer-required-for-key-vault-references-in-app-service-and-azure-functions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>More KeyVault! Azure RBAC support is now GA which lets you set role-based permissions down to secret \/ certificate level! (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/key-vault\/general\/rbac-guide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>For\u00a0<strong>CosmosDB, <\/strong>the use of composite indexes to optimize queries with aggregates and filter expressions with system functions is now GA. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/more-ways-to-use-composite-indexes-in-azure-cosmos-db-now-generally-available-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Enterprise and Enterprise Flash tiers for\u00a0<strong>Azure Redis Cache\u00a0<\/strong>are now available, bringing higher availability and active geo-replication. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/new-enterprise-and-enterprise-flash-tiers-for-azure-cache-for-redis-now-generally-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Azure\u00a0<strong>Kubernetes Services<\/strong> (AKS) now supports customer managed keys for encryption of OS and data disks. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/general-availability-encrypted-customer-managed-keys-policy-for-aks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>And for managing your AKS clusters you can now use Just-In-Time access control. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/general-availability-justintime-access-support-in-aks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Visual Studio &amp; Azure DevOps<\/h2>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the news coming from the Visual Studio and Azure DevOps teams!<\/p>\n<p>For Visual Studio lovers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Visual Studio 2019\u00a0<strong>version 16.9<\/strong>\u00a0is out there (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/vs2019-v16-9-and-v16-10-preview-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>) and the preview version is 16.10 preview 1. (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/vs2019-v16-9-and-v16-10-preview-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Visual Studio 2019 for Mac\u00a0<strong>version 8.9<\/strong>\u00a0is now available (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/visual-studio-2019-for-mac-version-8-9-is-now-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And these updates were part of sprint 180 &amp; 181 in Azure DevOps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There were several changes which enable you to have project members not seeing eachother within the DevOps environment. (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/devops\/release-notes\/2021\/sprint-182-update#limit-user-visibility-and-collaboration-to-specific-projects\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Group by Tags is now available in the <strong>Charts widget<\/strong>.
