But now it&#8217;s time to dive into Azure once again!<\/p>\n<p>Are you having trouble keeping track of everything that&#8217;s going around in Azure? You&#8217;re not alone! In an effort to do so myself, I&#8217;m starting a monthly series called &#8220;News for developers&#8221; which is exactly that: a summary of all of the Azure flavored news specifically for <strong>software developers<\/strong>. Want to know more? Check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.repsaj.nl\/index.php\/2020\/05\/azure-news-for-developers-the-readme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">readme<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Azure<\/h2>\n<p>Here is a roll-up of all the Azure news which might relate to you as a developer. Note that all services mentioned are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Generally Available<\/span> (GA) so they can be used in production scenarios today. Exact availability of services might vary based on the Azure region you&#8217;re deploying to.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Azure monitor<\/strong> for containers now supports Pods &amp; Replica set live logs in AKS resource view. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/azmon-livelogs-pods\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Azure Functions\u00a0<\/strong>was updated to now support Node.js version 14 (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/nodejs-14-in-azure-functions-is-now-generally-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>) and\u00a0<strong>.NET 5 <\/strong>in production. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/general-availability-azure-functions-supports-net-5-in-production\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Also for\u00a0<strong>Azure Functions<\/strong>, there is now support for Python Durable Functions. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/python-durable-functions-support-in-azure-functions-is-now-generally-available-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Ever wanted to know what cold and hot potato routing is all about? Check out the new routing options in Azure. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/azure-routing-preference-is-now-generally-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Support for\u00a0request\u00a0and\u00a0response validation policies for\u00a0<strong>API Management<\/strong> is now generally available. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/azure-api-management-support-for-request-and-response-validation-policies-has-reached-general-availability\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Machine learning on an <strong>Azure SQL managed instance<\/strong> is also GA. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/machine-learning-services-on-azure-sql-managed-instance-now-generally-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>You can now use\u00a0<strong>Azure Communication Services<\/strong> to add things like SMS, chat, voice and video to any app. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/general-availability-azure-communication-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kubernetes<\/strong> support for version 1.20 is now GA. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/general-availability-kubernetes-v120-support-in-aks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>App Services and Functions on Windows can now access Virtual Network Restricted instances of\u00a0<strong>Azure KeyVault<\/strong>. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/general-availability-networking-for-key-vault-references-on-windows-in-app-service-and-azure-functions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>On the topic of securing things,\u00a0<strong>Azure Private Link<\/strong> for Azure Cache for Redis is also available. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/azure-private-link-for-azure-cache-for-redis-in-general-availability\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Visual Studio &amp; Azure DevOps<\/h2>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the news coming from the Visual Studio and Azure DevOps teams!<\/p>\n<p>For Visual Studio lovers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Visual Studio 2019\u00a0<strong>version 16.9<\/strong>\u00a0is out there (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/vs2019-v16-9-and-v16-10-preview-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>) and the preview version is 16.10 preview 1. (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/vs2019-v16-9-and-v16-10-preview-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Visual Studio 2019 for Mac\u00a0<strong>version 8.9<\/strong>\u00a0is now available (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/visual-studio-2019-for-mac-version-8-9-is-now-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And these updates were part of sprint 183 &amp; 184 in Azure DevOps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A warning for fans of free grants for <strong>Azure Pipelines.\u00a0<\/strong>Temporary restrictions are in place which means you may not get a free grant of concurrent pipelines. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/changes-to-azure-pipelines-free-grants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Azure Artifacts<\/strong> upstream behavior has been changed so that packages which are already in an internal stream won&#8217;t be fetched from upstream sources as well. (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/devops\/release-notes\/2021\/sprint-183-update#changes-to-azure-artifacts-upstream-behavior\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Support to configure per-pipeline retention policies will be removed for classic pipelines shortly.\u00a0 Retention can than be set only on a per-project basis. (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/devops\/release-notes\/2021\/sprint-184-update#removal-of-per-pipeline-retention-policies-in-classic-builds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>There is now a way to limit the use of <strong>setVariable<\/strong> in Azure Pipelines to prevent exploits through external sources. (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/devops\/release-notes\/2021\/sprint-184-update#new-controls-for-environment-variables-in-pipelines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>If you&#8217;re using\u00a0<strong>Az<\/strong>, <strong>Azure<\/strong> or <strong>Azure RM<\/strong> preinstalled modules on pipeline agents, check out the changes coming to the installed versions. (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/devops\/release-notes\/2021\/sprint-184-update#change-in-az-azure-and-azure-rm-preinstalled-modules\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>There&#8217;s now to option to\u00a0<strong>disable a repository<\/strong> which you can use for instance when a repo is not in compliance.
