You&#8217;re not alone! In an effort to do so myself, I&#8217;m starting a monthly series called &#8220;News for developers&#8221; which is exactly that: a summary of all of the Azure flavored news specifically for <strong>software developers<\/strong>. Want to know more? Check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.repsaj.nl\/index.php\/2020\/05\/azure-news-for-developers-the-readme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">readme<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The pandemic something makes me lose track of things a little bit, but last month was BUILD month! That traditionally means: lots of news to report.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Azure<\/h2>\n<p>Here is a roll-up of all the Azure news which might relate to you as a developer. Note that all services mentioned are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Generally Available<\/span> (GA) so they can be used in production scenarios today. Exact availability of services might vary based on the Azure region you&#8217;re deploying to.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You can now leverage a <strong>capacity calculator<\/strong> for Azure Cosmos DB API for MongoDB to estimate your workload needs. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/capacity-calculator-with-azure-cosmos-db-api-for-mongodb-now-generally-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Azure Static WebApps<\/strong> have been made generally available. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/azure-static-web-apps-is-now-generally-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>The SLA for\u00a0<strong>Azure KeyVault<\/strong> has been raised up to 99.99% (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/akv-sla-raised-to-9999\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Several updates were rolled out for\u00a0<strong>Azure API Management<\/strong>. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/azure-api-management-updates-may-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Azure Arc<\/strong> lets you run a set of well known Azure services on any cloud, anywhere. This truly enables cross-vendor cloud experiences. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/services\/azure-arc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>The free tier of\u00a0<strong>Cosmos DB<\/strong> has been extended to bring you the first 1000 RU\/sec and 25GB of storage for free (limited to one instance per subscription). (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/expanded-azure-cosmos-db-free-tier-now-in-general-availability\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Also with\u00a0<strong>Cosmos DB,\u00a0<\/strong>there is now a\u00a0<strong>serveless<\/strong> pricing model as well. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/azure-cosmos-db-serverless-now-in-general-availability\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>And lastly,\u00a0<strong>role based access<\/strong> is now enabled for Cosmos DB. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/azure-cosmos-db-rolebased-access-control-rbac-now-in-general-availability\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Azure App Service\u00a0<strong>Managed Certificates<\/strong> let you secure your domains at no additional costs. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/app-service-managed-certificates-now-generally-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Logic Apps<\/strong> received a bunch of updates, including new developer workflows with a Visual Studio code extension. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/general-availability-logic-apps-with-new-hosting-options\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>I&#8217;m not sure why you&#8217;d want to (unless your ops maybe), but you can now write your Durable Functions in <strong>PowerShell<\/strong>. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/powershell-support-in-durable-functions-is-now-generally-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Azure Bicep<\/strong> is a code-based abstraction layer on ARM templates, allowing you to deploy your resources in a better way (imho). (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/blog\/new-azure-capabilities-to-simplify-deployment-and-management\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Visual Studio &amp; Azure DevOps<\/h2>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the news coming from the Visual Studio and Azure DevOps teams!<\/p>\n<p>For Visual Studio lovers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Visual Studio 2019\u00a0<strong>version 16.10<\/strong>\u00a0is out there (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/visual-studio-2019-v16-10-and-v16-11-preview-1-are-available-today\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>) and the preview version is 16.11 preview 1. (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/visual-studio-2019-v16-10-and-v16-11-preview-1-are-available-today\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Visual Studio 2019 for Mac\u00a0<strong>version 8.10<\/strong>\u00a0is now available (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/visual-studio-2019-for-mac-version-8-10-is-now-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And these updates were part of sprint 186 &amp; 187 in Azure DevOps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In Azure DevOps,\u00a0<strong>Delivery Plans 2.0 <\/strong>is now GA. (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/devops\/release-notes\/2021\/sprint-187-update#delivery-plans-20-is-generally-available\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>This also features\u00a0<strong>Dependency Tracking<\/strong>, which I personally love. (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/devops\/release-notes\/2021\/sprint-187-update#dependency-tracking\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>There&#8217;s an upcoming change in which framework SDK versions are installed on hosted Ubuntu agents. (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/devops\/release-notes\/2021\/sprint-187-update#change-in-net-sdk-preinstallation-policy-on-microsoft-hosted-ubuntu-agents\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>The API to manage\u00a0<strong>Personal Access Tokens<\/strong> (PAT) is now GA. (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/devops\/release-notes\/2021\/sprint-186-update#pat-lifecycle-management-api-general-availability\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>You can now have repos as a protected resource within the scope of a project. (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/devops\/release-notes\/2021\/sprint-186-update#repos-as-a-protected-resource-in-yaml-pipelines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Changes to Azure DevOps can take up to three weeks to roll out across tenants.\u00a0The Visual Studio blog can be found here:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">https:\/\/blogs.msdn.microsoft.com\/visualstudio<\/a>.
