You&#8217;re not alone! In an effort to do so myself, I&#8217;m starting a monthly series called &#8220;News for developers&#8221; which is exactly that: a summary of all of the Azure flavored news specifically for <strong>software developers<\/strong>. Want to know more? Check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.repsaj.nl\/index.php\/2020\/05\/azure-news-for-developers-the-readme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">readme<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The pandemic something makes me lose track of things a little bit, but last month was BUILD month! That traditionally means: lots of news to report.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Azure<\/h2>\n<p>Here is a roll-up of all the Azure news which might relate to you as a developer. Note that all services mentioned are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Generally Available<\/span> (GA) so they can be used in production scenarios today. Exact availability of services might vary based on the Azure region you&#8217;re deploying to.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ok, maybe not really Azure, but the\u00a0<strong>API Portal<\/strong> is based on API Managements developer portal and lets you use an OpenAPI spec to quickly generate documentation for your API. (<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/Azure\/API-Portal\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>You can now use\u00a0Resource Health to monitor the status of your Azure\u00a0<strong>SQL Managed Instance<\/strong>. (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/azure-sql\/database\/resource-health-to-troubleshoot-connectivity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>For those who love\u00a0<strong>free<\/strong> (I&#8217;m Dutch so I know what I&#8217;m talking about&#8230;) there are now 5 more\u00a0<strong>FREE<\/strong> offerings in Azure these include: Azure Database for PostgreSQL, Azure Database for MySQL, Azure Key Vault, Azure Logic Apps, and the Encoding feature of Azure Media Services. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/five-more-free-services-available-with-an-azure-free-account\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>You might not need this daily, but when you do&#8230; Azure\u00a0<strong>Maps Elevation Service<\/strong> has you covered with elevation data from Earths pole to pole. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/azure-maps-elevation-service-is-now-generally-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Also for maps, Android developers can now leverage the\u00a0<strong>Android SDK for Maps<\/strong>. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/azure-maps-android-sdk-is-now-generally-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Azure\u00a0<strong>Blobs<\/strong> now have the ability to add index tags to them, in order to find what you need without the need to a secondary catalog in &#8211; for instance &#8211; table storage. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/azure-blob-index-tags-now-generally-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Visual Studio &amp; Azure DevOps<\/h2>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the news coming from the Visual Studio and Azure DevOps teams!<\/p>\n<p>For Visual Studio lovers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Visual Studio 2019\u00a0<strong>version 16.10<\/strong>\u00a0is out there (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/visual-studio-2019-v16-10-and-v16-11-preview-1-are-available-today\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>) and the preview version is 16.11 preview 1. (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/visual-studio-2019-v16-10-and-v16-11-preview-1-are-available-today\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>For those who want to test the early bits, you can now also take\u00a0<strong>Visual Studio 2022<\/strong> for a spin! You can download Preview 1 here: (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/visual-studio-2022-preview-1-now-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Visual Studio 2019 for Mac\u00a0<strong>version 8.10<\/strong>\u00a0is now available (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/visual-studio-2019-for-mac-version-8-10-is-now-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>When you&#8217;re into productivity, check out these latest updates from the Roslyn team. These include features like removing unused packages from projects (w00p) and visually editing an .editorconfig file within Studio. (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/learn-whats-new-in-net-productivity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>If performance of your code is something you need instead, check out these updates to the <strong>.NET Object Allocation tool<\/strong> in VS. (link)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And these updates were part of sprint 188 in Azure DevOps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Closing the gap between traditional release pipelines and YAML pipelines, you can now retain a (build)pipeline you consume by policy, which is one of the things yaml pipelines were still lacking.
