You&#8217;re not alone! In an effort to do so myself, I&#8217;m starting a monthly series called &#8220;News for developers&#8221; which is exactly that: a summary of all of the Azure flavored news specifically for <strong>software developers<\/strong>. Want to know more? Check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.repsaj.nl\/index.php\/2020\/05\/azure-news-for-developers-the-readme\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">readme<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Azure<\/h2>\n<p>Here is a roll-up of all the Azure news which might relate to you as a developer. Note that all services mentioned are <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Generally Available<\/span> (GA) so they can be used in production scenarios today. Exact availability of services might vary based on the Azure region you&#8217;re deploying to.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When you&#8217;re a heavy user of\u00a0<strong>Azure Storage<\/strong>, especially in the number of files, you might want to check out the all new\u00a0<strong>Inventory<\/strong> added to Azure Storage. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/azure-blob-storage-inventory-generally-availability\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>If you&#8217;re using a lot of storage, you might also have the need to clean up. The\u00a0<strong>last access time tracking<\/strong> feature can assist with automatically handling files which have not been accessed (not modified!) for a while. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/azure-blob-storage-last-access-time-tracking-now-generally-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Also for Azure Storage, you can now mount your storage as a local file share on Azure Web Apps. This can come in handy for a number of storage related requirements. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/mounting-azure-storage-as-a-local-share-for-web-apps-deployed-on-app-service-is-generally-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>If you&#8217;re using\u00a0<strong>CosmosDB<\/strong> and back-up is important to you, know that it now offers\u00a0<strong>continuous back-up\u00a0<\/strong>with point-in-time restore capabilities. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/azure-cosmos-db-continuous-backup-with-point-in-time-restore-now-in-general-availability\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>With\u00a0<strong>Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)<\/strong> it is now possible to use a public DNS for name resolving. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/general-availability-public-dns-support-for-private-azure-kubernetes-service-clusters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>The rate limit for\u00a0<strong>Azure App Configuration<\/strong> in the Standard tier has been increased to 30.000, previously 20k. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/general-availability-azure-app-configuration-now-offers-increased-hourly-request-limit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Visual Studio &amp; Azure DevOps<\/h2>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the news coming from the Visual Studio and Azure DevOps teams!<\/p>\n<p>For Visual Studio lovers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Visual Studio 2019\u00a0<strong>version 16.11<\/strong>\u00a0is out there (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/visual-studio-16-11\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>). This is the final servicing baseline, after which Microsoft will start to move on to Visual Studio 2022!<\/li>\n<li>For those who want to test the early bits, you can now also take\u00a0<strong>Visual Studio 2022<\/strong> for a spin! You can download <strong>Preview 3<\/strong> here: (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/visual-studio-2022-preview-3-now-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Visual Studio 2019 for Mac\u00a0<strong>version 8.10<\/strong>\u00a0is now available (<a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/visualstudio\/visual-studio-2019-for-mac-version-8-10-is-now-available\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>For those in need of a virtual development environment, you can now check out\u00a0<strong>GitHub CodeSpaces<\/strong> which brings you cloud based development environments whenever and wherever you need them. (<a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/en-us\/updates\/general-availability-github-codespaces\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">link<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And these updates were part of sprint 191 in Azure DevOps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It was a bit of a slow month, must be due to holidays. Nothing major to report here.
